I’ve been up to my eyeballs in big data recently, as you can see from this Graphic Recording of the opening keynote.
It was a super cool opportunity to provide these highly technical folks (lots of Chief Data Officers!) with an analog-style innovation that turned out to be a big hit.
But one of the coolest things about my work is learning what’s up out there. So, what’s going on with data these days?
Well, it’s not just about the size of your “big data”, it’s all about “smart data”, as in how are you going to use all that data you’ve collected (or that’s publicly available)!
This talk in particular by Jim Tyo focused on the value of a successful Enterprise Data Office. He asserts that the bottom line is the #1 essential: how does it give us competitive advantage?
Because really, when it comes down to it, the data is only as important as what we do with it. One of the most important things we can do with our data is tell stories. About ourselves and our customers. And the stories we tell with our data drive the bottom line.
So, does the data you’re collecting and the stories you’re telling give you competitive advantage? Share in a comment!
